Plot summary
The movie revolves around Suraj Saxena (Arjun Rampal), a simple guy from a small town who lives with his parents (Om Puri and Smita Jaykar) and sister (Amita Nangia). He meets Kiran Choudhary (Dia Mirza), a rich girl from Mumbai who comes to his town on a holiday trip with her friends. He offers to show her around and they fall in love with each other. Suraj is unable to see her off by the train as his father has chest pains and has to be rushed to the hospital. But Suraj is unable to get Kiran out of his mind and heart.
After his sister gets married, Suraj's family decides to relocate to Mumbai, where Suraj enrolls in college and makes several new friends, as well as becomes a popular football player. He eventually meets Kiran again and they renew their romance. However, Kiran's father Ranveer Choudhary (Vinod Khanna), a powerful and influential businessman, does not approve of their relationship. He has Suraj brought up before him and introduces him to his many friends, who include prominent lawyers, politicians, high ranking civil and municipal employees, the police commissioner, and the state chief minister. Suraj is warned of dire consequences if he and his family do not leave town immediately.
Suraj does not leave town, and hell descends on his family and himself. His mother is unable to purchase food and is publicly humiliated; his father is followed around by Ranveer's goons, harassed, robbed, and then faces the ultimate humiliation of being publicly arrested, handcuffed, and imprisoned on false charges of conspiring against the country; his sister's marriage is broken; some of Suraj's friends betray him; and Kiran is forced to marry Ranveer's son Rocky (Vikas Sethi). Suraj decides to fight back against Ranveer's tyranny with the help of his loyal friends Sam (Kabir Sadanand) and Raju (Rakesh Bedi). He also manages to rescue Kiran from her forced marriage and elopes with her. The climax of the movie shows how Suraj confronts Ranveer and his goons in a final showdown.
