Colombia and Mexico have the pleasure of playing the first game of Pool C in the 2023 World Baseball Classic from Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondback. This group will also feature Canada, Great Britain and the United States. Team USA is the most recent WBC champion, winning the tournament in 2017. This is Colombia's second WBC appearance while Mexico has played in all four previous tournaments. Colombia's top finish was the pool stage in 2017 while Mexico has made the quarterfinals in 2006 and 2009. Mexico will get a huge shot in the arm by starting Julio Urías for this first game. Urías is the Los Angeles Dodgers phenom from Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico. He was signed by L.A. in the same scouting trip as Yasiel Puig.

He has been on an absolute tear lately. After winning the World Series in 2020, he was the NL wins leader in 2021 and the NL ERA leader in 2022.
How he has not made an All-Star game is pure robbery. Urías went 17-7 last year with a 2.16 ERA and signed a one-year deal to remain with the Dodgers in the offseason. Mexico will be favored today just by starting Urías.
Colombia will be starting Nabil Crismatt. He also represented Colombia in 2017 for the WBC. Crismatt has played for the San Diego Padres the last two seasons mostly in a relief role. The righty went 5-2 with a 2.94 ERA in 67.1 innings in 2022.
